ACCRA cost of Living Index (4th quarter 2002)

Because the City of Cadillac and Wexford County areas are not large enough for a cost of living index to be calculated, we have referenced the closest Michigan community, the City of Grand Rapids for this purpose.

100%                        16%                          28%                           8%                              10%                           5%                              33%

Composite                   Grocery                                                                                             Trans-                         Health              Misc. Goods

Index                           Items                           Housing                     Utilities                     portation                 Care                   & Services

The ACCRA Cost of Living Index measures relative price levels for consumer goods and services in participating areas.   The average for all participating places (U.S. and Canada), both metropolitan and nonmetropolitan, equals 100, and each participant’s index is read as a percentage of the average for all places.   The index does not measure inflation.   The index reflects cost differentials for professional and executive households in the top income quintile.   Since judgement sampling is used in the survey, no confidence interval can be determined.

Average Area Wages

The following select wages are cited from the 2003 Northwest Michigan Wage, Salary and Benefits Survey – American Society ofEmployers.   This survey is based on responses from four types of industry, including:

  •   Trades and Services
  •   Government, Financial, Real Estate and Insurance
  •   Manufacturing Non-Durables
  •   Manufacturing Durables

Employers responding to the survey were located in Wexford County, Grand Traverse County, and greater Northwest area.  Total participant employment totaled 16,014 employees.  Only 26% of the responding companies reported that a labor union represents some segment of their workforce.  Furthermore, 18% of responding companies that they are also auto suppliters; 46% of responding companies reported that they are in the manufacturing industry; and 54% of responding companies reported that they are in the service industry.
