The Department of Public Works is responsible for street repair and maintenance operations, parks and forestry programs, cemetery operations, maintenance of city-owned recreational facilities, repair and maintenance of equipment owned by the Stores and Garage Fund, overseeing the solid waste removal contract, facilities manager of the municipal complex, and risk manager.

  • Streets – all streets within the city limits, including cleaning and maintenance
  • Parks – staffing and maintenance of two large City Parks
  • Cemetery – Maple Hill Cemetery maintenance & burials
  • Forestry - Trimming, care, and planting of trees and shrubs
  • Facilities Management – care and maintenance of the City Complex and other City buildings
  • Risk Management – maintaining proper insurance's on City property and operations
 

Mr. Johnson joined the City staff in May, 1992. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering from North Dakota State University and a Master Degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School. Prior to joining the City, he served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, the last eleven years in the Civil Engineer Corps. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Public Works Association and the Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society).

Tree TrimmingTree Planting

The forestry division is responsible for maintenance, trimming, removal and planting of trees in the City right-of-way and on City property. This work is accomplished by Street Department personnel and private contractors. Contractual services reflect tree removal, stump removal, and pesticide applications by outside professionals.
